Experience Spearfish Online

For those of you who do not live in or around Spearfish how do you stay up-to-date with happenings in the Spearfish area? What about those of you who are in the area, how do you share your experiences with those who are away?

The answer to either of these questions are simple. Connect with us online across several social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Blogger.

Facebook is our largest online social network, which makes sense as it is the largest social network out there today! We're going to go ahead and assume that you already know the gist of Facebook so we will not go into too much detail on how it all works.

On our Facebook page you'll find upcoming events and attractions in the Spearfish area as well as links and photos! As of today we are connected to over 2,000 followers -- are you one of them?  We love interaction so like our page, share your photos, and comment on our links!

This is another well-known social network that I'm sure most of you know what it does, but to be safe here's a quick run-down: Twitter offers us a chance to connect with you and gives an opportunity to interact and share tidbits of information in 140 characters or less. It doesn't seem like much, but the reality of it is that it opens the information stream so that others can join out there too!

Now, there is one downside. Twitter is formatted like a newsfeed and like spoken word, post are fleeting -- the more tweets that pop into our newsfeed the further previous tweets get pushed away. Now, I try to monitor Twitter often, but I cannot do so constantly. There is a way to make sure that Visit Spearfish doesn't miss your tweet, however. Use a hashtag (#) to make words in your tweets searchable. I often find myself searching for tweets that use hashtags such as:  #Spearfish, #SpearfishCanyon, #BHSU, etc. You can also mention us in a tweet to by using: @VisitSpearfish.

Instagram is a great way to see the first-hand experience visitors are doing and seeing in the Spearfish area.

Just over a year ago Visit Spearfish snapped its first Instagram photo and since then we have gained almost 300 followers and have shared over 100 photos! During the past summer, we held the #SpearfishSummerSnap weekly photo contest that had over 270 photos submitted throughout the summer! You can find these photos by searching Instagram for the #SpearfishSummerSnap hashtag or other simple searches such as #Spearfish or #SpearfishCanyon will bring up things people enjoy about Spearfish, South Dakota and want to share with everyone!

Our handle is @VisitSpearfish - and don't be afraid to follow or tag us in your photos! And  remember, when you're snapping photos in the area be sure to share your photos on Instagram and don't forget to #hashtag your photos with relevant words so that everyone can see the fun too!

This is a no-brainer as you are currently reading it But check back often to see what's new. The Spearfish Travel Blog aims to have a new post every week giving insight to one aspect of the Spearfish area.

Oh, and if you're interested, we love hearing straight from you! That's right, feel free to submit a blog post of your own along with photos to info@visitspearfish.com.

Now, this was just a short overview on the some of the ways to connect with Visit Spearfish online and we hope to connect with you over all networks. Remember not to be shy and interact with us and let us know what you enjoy seeing on our pages!
