Fall Foliage Color Peak on the Horizon

Autumn is right around the corner, and with the new season comes many changes to the Northern Hills. The days have begun to get shorter, cooler temperatures now allow for light jackets, and the number of visitors from the summer is dwindling down, but one of the most noticeable changes is that of the foliage around our beautiful landscape.

While most of the Black Hills National Forest is made up of evergreen trees, bits of orange, yellow, and red will soon begin to appear as the leaves on the deciduous trees change for the season. Some of the most stunning and picturesque scenery found in the Black Hills Area during the summer months can be seen right in Spearfish Canyon, but nothing compares to the canyon’s transformation in the fall.

This year’s peak for the fall foliage colors is predicted to occur late September through early October. The fall color peak -- a photographer’s dream -- is just in time for the Black Hills Photo Shootout, taking place from September 27th through the 29th, and Spearfish’s annual Harvest Festival on September 28th.

Don't miss out on the wonderful colors and landscapes Spearfish Canyon has to offer! For more information on the canyon and the Spearfish area, visit our website at: www.VisitSpearfish.com.
