January 28th was the 20th Annual "Taste of Spearfish" event put on by the Spearfish Area Chamber of Commerce. This family friendly event held every year on the last monday in January allows attendees the opportunity to sample food from a variety of local restaurants. This year's event also kicked off the Spearfish 125th Celebration!
Here's how it worked this year. Upon arrival, there was an admission fee of just $2. Children 5 and under were free. Inside, local restaurants had booths set up all around the Pavilion. Each food item was worth a number of tickets. This year entree items were worth 2-4 tickets, and desserts and drinks were 1-2 tickets. There was a designated table to purchase tickets, which were $1 each. You also received a card with all of the restaurants listed. If you made it to each booth and had them mark your card, you could be entered in a drawing to win a prize basket!
This is a really fun way for families to sample a variety of restaurants at a reasonable price. This year's participants included: A'viands Food Services at BHSU, Bay Leaf Cafe, Bum Steer on 5th, Eagle Sales of the Black Hills, Guadalajara's Mexican Restaurant, Killian's Tavern & Steakhouse, Lucky's 13 Pub, Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, Rent-a-Chef Catering, Schade Winery, and Spearfish Canyon Lodge Latchstring Inn.
As previously mentioned, this year's "Taste of Spearfish" was also the kickoff event for the Spearfish 125th Celebration. The Spearfish Area Chamber of Commerce has played an active role in the community for 94 years. At the event, newspaper archives, photos, and the original charter scrapbook from 1958 of the Spearfish Chamber Jaycees were all on display.
This event is a great way to spend a chilly evening in January. The entire family is sure to enjoy themselves while sampling the various eateries. Next January, plan to bring your family and friends to experience a "Taste of Spearfish".
